From Family Legacy to Modern Innovation: The Evolution of Cincinnati's Packaging Industry

The story of Cincinnati's packaging industry demonstrates remarkable transformation and entrepreneurial resilience. What began as the Rigacci Box Company, founded by Julius and Zenobia Rigacci, has evolved into today's 3D Corrugated—a modern packaging and fulfillment operation that honors its roots while embracing innovation.

The Rigacci Foundation

The Rigacci Box Company served Cincinnati's business community for years, built on reliable service and strong employee relationships. Employees like Kermit "Bo" Watkins devoted over three decades to the firm, exemplifying the loyalty that characterized the company culture. The year 2012 marked a turning point when Julius passed away on March 2, followed by Zenobia on September 30, leading to the business's transformation.

Evolution Through New Ownership

Brothers Terry and Dan Davis established 3D Corrugated in 2012, representing more than ownership change—it signaled a new industry approach. In December 2020, Marty Boyer and Matt Mauser, long-standing clients through their Theatre House business, acquired the company, bringing valuable customer perspective to operations.

Current Leadership and Vision

In March 2025, Nick Brophy acquired 3D Corrugated, bringing exceptional qualifications to drive growth. His military background as a Major (Retired) in the U.S. Army provides operational discipline essential for complex logistics operations. Combined with his MBA, this creates the analytical framework necessary for today's business landscape. Brophy's proven entrepreneurial success—founding NKU BizAccessHub and Incline Consulting—demonstrates his ability to identify opportunities and build organizations. His role directing the DAV Patriot Boot Camp for veteran entrepreneurs showcases his understanding of scaling operations and developing business leadership. His retail operations background offers direct industry relevance, providing firsthand knowledge of supply chain challenges and customer service expectations fundamental to 3D Corrugated's success. Additionally, his work with The Port Authority in Cincinnati demonstrates understanding of regional economic development and logistics infrastructure, positioning him to leverage Cincinnati's strategic location for client benefit.

Modern Operations

Operating from 7820 Reading Road, 3D Corrugated has expanded beyond traditional packaging. The company offers specialized corrugated products, custom solutions, and comprehensive packaging materials, with delivery throughout Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Most significantly, 3D Corrugated now provides fulfillment services (3PL), including integration with e-commerce platforms like Shopify and Shipstation, plus warehousing and inventory management.

Looking Forward

Under Brophy's leadership, 3D Corrugated exemplifies how local businesses can successfully navigate change while serving their communities. The evolution from family-owned box manufacturer to modern packaging and fulfillment operation illustrates the dynamic nature of American business and the importance of entrepreneurial vision in sustaining economic vitality. For Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky businesses, 3D Corrugated offers both service and inspiration—proof that with the right leadership, local companies can thrive across generations.
